When a property is levied upon and sold for collection of delinquent taxes the successful bid amount may be in excess of what is actually owed. The Tax Commissioner holds the excess funds in Catoosa County for a period of five (5) years, and then they are forwarded to the Georgia Department of Revenue Unclaimed Property Division. For this five-year period of time the previous owner, heirs or lien holders may file a claim for the excess funds. If a question arises as to the right of the claim, an interpleader may be filed with the Catoosa County Clerk of Superior Court for settlement by a superior court judge.

A claim form may be obtained from the Tax Commissioner’s office at 796 Lafayette Street, Ringgold, GA, 30736.

A listing of unclaimed or unpaid excess funds for Catoosa County may be obtained from the Tax Commissioner either in person, by mail request or by email request to sandra.self@catoosa.com. If the request in made by mail a stamped, self-addressed envelope must be included.
